Cook with Metrolink: National Chicken Wing Day

Happy National Chicken Wing Day! These chicken wings are easy to make, and they taste excellent grilled, baked, or fried. The sweetness from the honey and soy will help the wings caramelize in the oven, and create all the yummy charred and crispy bits. The heat form the sambal chili sauce is subtle, but makes you want to keep eating it. There’s no way you can eat just one.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 2 lbs party wings
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 6 tbsp honey
  • 4 tbsp sambal chili sauce
  • 4 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • sesame seeds (optional)
  • cilantro leaves (optional)

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  1. Clean and dry the chicken wings before marinating. Combine the soy sauce, honey, sambal, hoisin, ketchup, ginger and garlic in a mixing bowl and mix well. Pour the marinade over the chicken wings, making sure all the wings are evenly coated. Marinate the wings at least a few hours, but if you have time, overnight works best.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the wings on a sheet pan in an even layer. Bake the wings for 15 minutes. You don’t need to turn them. The sugar in the marinade will caramelize in the oven and create a little crust outside of the wings.
  3. Garnish the wings with the sesame seeds and cilantro, if using.
