Join Friends of the LA River’s Great LA River CleanUp!

Since 1989, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) has organized the Great LA River CleanUp each spring. The first event had only 12 people at one site on the River; today, the CleanUp is one of the most impactful environmental stewardship events in the region, and officially the largest urban river cleanup in the country.

Over the course of 29 years, 55,000 Angelenos have come together to keep 500 tons of trash from polluting the River, dumping onto our beaches, and washing into the Pacific Ocean. This incredible example of community organizing has contributed to a healthier River ecosystem, which benefits our city, our residents and our urban wildlife.

The CleanUp is celebrating its 30th year this year and there are two LA River clean up events you can help at: the Mid River (Los Feliz/Elysian Valley) on April 20, 2019; and the Lower River (Compton/Long Beach) on April 27, 2019. Register to help here!
