Amtrak is expecting high ridership between Los Angeles and San Diego from Wednesday, July 18 to Sunday, July 22 because of San Diego Comic-Con International and the opening weekend of the Del Mar Racetrack.
As a result of this, Metrolink Monthly Passes will not be valid on any Pacific Surfliner trains between Los Angeles and Oceanside on those days.
The Rail2Rail program, which allows Metrolink Monthly Pass holders to use Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains along the Orange County and Venture County lines, may be suspended when Amtrak anticipates high ridership.
Weekday commuters who often ride Amtrak 584 (5:10 p.m. departure) to Oceanside should confider Metrolink train 604 (4:30 p.m. departure), 688 (4:50 p.m. departure), 606 (5:46 p.m. departure) or 608 (6:40 p.m. departure). This may result in higher than normal ridership on Metrolink trains.
Metrolink Monthly Passes will still be accepted on Pacific Surfliner trains on the Ventura County Line during this time.
Regular Rail2Rail service between Oceanside and Los Angeles will resume on Monday, July 23.
